So Retro-Chic!

So Retro-Chic!

**This post was inspired by Sunday's episode of the ABC hit, Pan Am, which follows the days in the lives of the classic airline's stewardesses !!..I absolutely love the styles of the 60s and would do anything to own a retro Pan Am bag!!**

There has never been a time that I can remember where I have made reference to a style or trend and was not reminded that such a style or trend started its roots years before and that fashion merely repeats itself over time.

In a moment of self-reflection, I thought about it and came to the realization that all of the fashions that I love today were just as fierce twenty, thirty years ago. The fashions of our grandparents’ time, evolved into the styles of our parents’ time which later developed into what we wear today; oh, the beautiful Circle of Fashion!!

~*Flashing Lights: Our Time Is Now!*~

Illuminating the talents of new artists; independent rhythm with a mainstream flair!

Shining the light on the YouTube celebrities of the world!!!

On Wednesday October 5th, in need of something interesting to watch on television, my interest was captured by the image of Kim Kardashian and her hubby, Kris Humphries, given highly-comedic mock wedding vows on The Ellen Show. While the artificial wedding kept my attention momentarily, thanks to Ellen effortless humor, what really caught my attention was the segment that was coming up next!

Ellen is known for finding talented artists on YouTube and bringing them onto the show to perform live and after seeing a video of them on YouTube, Emily Luther and Charlie Puth got their big break! Performing a cover of Adele’s smash-hit “Someone Like You”, I began to truly realize that some of the most talented artists in the world are the ones without the multi-million dollar contracts. They are our next door neighbors, best friends, brothers, sisters, cousins, etc and they have the right to be recognized!

Therefore, in honor of all the gifted individuals on YouTube, this edition of *So Golden* will shine the light on some of the most-inspiring, talented YouTube celebrities out here!!

Some may have thousands of hits while other, not so many but that doesn't mean that they're not great; just undiscovered! Check out some of these hand-picked “celebs” that I feel deserve their time in the spotlight and who knows, you may hear them on a radio or see them on a television near you soon!

***Feel free to comment on these artists and if you know of any other undiscovered talent, let us know!!!***

I could sit here and fill this whole page up with YouTube videos because there is just that many but these are just a few that caught my eye! In your spare time, instead of depending on BET, MTV or VH1 to show who's hot, spend some time on YouTube; who you find may surprise you!!

Accessories: the golden touch of fashion!

Spotlighting: Earrings

Step aside diamond studs and basic, big hoops because what used to be simple ear jewelry is now a major force in the world of accessories!

With the latest designs surfacing and reaching the mainstream appeal, it’s safe to say that earrings have made a dramatic jump from a simple ear ornament to one of the most important and vital components of a fierce ensemble.

For example, outside of the juicy drama, one would be crazy to ignore the electrifying earrings on VH1’s hit, Basketball Wives, worn by Jennifer Williams and Evelyn Lozada, who due to the popular demand of her pieces seen on the show, currently has her own jewelry line in the works!

Another look that is heightened by a great pair of earrings is the natural hair look! A proud member of #TeamNatural (for my Twitter heads...lol) myself, I feel that my overall look is not complete until I don the biggest pair of earrings I own! My outfit is not only a head-turner but I’m left with this uncontrollable feeling of fierceness!

While some outfits require a simple stud, in order to pull those all together, the bigger, the better so whether they’re blinged-out, feathered, looped or chandeliered, don’t be afraid to show off your extravagant ear pieces and work the crowd!!

**WARNING** In order to avoid receiving a citation from the fashion police, please understand that while wearing earrings of large, vibrant magnitudes can be very funky and fun, there are a few rules that you need to be aware of!!

1)      Be mindful of the size of your earrings based on the style of shirt you wear. For example, the type of earrings that you wear with a turtleneck-style top may be different than what you would wear with a cow-neck top or dress!

2)      Understand that every earring is not to be worn with every hairstyle!! If you can, play around with up-dos and on/past-the-shoulder styles to see what earrings fit your hairstyle and the shape of your face! You don’t want to look like you have entirely too much going on!

Finally…

3)   Be confident!! For some, wearing big earrings can be a big step may take some time getting used to. If you are not used to the added attention that you will receive, know that you are working it and as long as you hold your head up high and strut your pumps, you be fine; I guarantee it!
