***Flashing Lights: Our Time Is Now!***

Illuminating the talents of new artists; independent rhythm with a mainstream flair!

The light’s on: Rudy Currence!!

For anyone who loves R&B/soul music as much as I do, look no closer than to Rudy Currence! As a member of BET’s Music Matters campaign, this Rock Hill, SC native has what it takes to becoming the next big thing in music!

Born with the gift of music, Currence began singing at the age of three, under the influence of his father and began playing the piano at the age of six. In addition to his father, Currence grew up listening to and was inspired by likes of Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, The Carpenters and The Clark Sisters. Blessed with the diverse, musical background of R&B, gospel, jazz and blues, folk, pop and classical, Currence released two independent albums, More Than You’ll Ever Know and Here with You on Mike Check Entertainment and has blessed the albums of Mya and Ray J with his extraordinary songwriting abilities.

Recently, Currence performed his hit, Zion on BET’s 106 & Park; a soulful ballad of self-reflection, growth and overcoming the many struggles we face in life. In the song, he touches on those in the church and their opinions on him crossing over to the secular realm. “God is bigger than the four walls of the church,” Currence stated on the hip-hop countdown show, “and I still carry positivity in my music.” Currence also announced that he was currently signed to rapper, Ludacris’ Disturbing Tha Peace label, which for Currence, is a good look.

“When I first heard Rudy’s music, it didn’t even remind me of a specific artist; it just reminded me of a specific time frame IN music,” says the CEO of DTP. “Where you talk about just raw vocal ability and raw music ability and that’s what I love so much about him because he’s raw, uncut, he don’t need no studio effects or any of that stuff. What you see is what you get; what you hear is what you get. 100%; it’s Rudy Currence…”

When asked what he hoped to accomplish with DTP and his career, Currence said with that adorable smile, “I wanna take over the world! I wanna win Grammy’s! I wanna be multi-platinum!” Confident yet humble, soft-spoken but vocals that come from the depths of his soul, Rudy Currence is what the game has been missing and definitely well on his way to reaching those goals and I hope after hearing her voice, you’ll agree and help insure that he’ll be here to stay!

Ø Mariah Carey Confirms Pregnancy!!!

After months and months of speculation and dodging the bullet, R&B songstress Mariah Carey and her hubby, Nick Cannon finally confirmed that they are indeed pregnant!! Earlier today (October 28th), the Today Show aired a snippet of a three-part Access Hollywood interview, confirming that the couple are expecting their 1st child in Spring 2011.

"Yes we are pregnant, this is true!" she told host Billy Bush in her New York City apartment. "It's been a long journey, but it's been tough because I've been trying to have ... to hold onto a shred of privacy. And that was not easy."

Mariah shared that there’s no official birth date for the baby but that she’s expecting her new bundle of joy before Summer ’11. "It's still early, I'm expecting in the spring, I'll say that. I don't want to give too much of like, specific outlines," she explained.

Cannon was also on hand for the interview, expressing his joy in being a father-to-be. "Uh, it's absolutely emotional, but first, so many reasons I mean obviously the greatest gift on earth is a child," Cannon said. "But ... you know how much we have been through, you know."

For the last couple years, rumors had been circulating about Mariah previously being pregnant and finally the couple came out and addressed the secret that Carey suffered a miscarriage. "Only one person knew about this and we were like, um, 'let's not tell anybody else," said Mariah. "It was really sad so we had to just, we had really to absorb this and take it in."

The full interview airs October 28th on Access Hollywood!

Ø Shyne Writes Apology Letter To L.A. Reid

A couple weeks ago, Shyne voiced his anger about Def Jam CEO L.A. Reid in an interview, accusing Reid of turning his back on hip-hop and not properly promoting the hip-hop artists under the label. After some time the reflect on what he said, Shyne issued an open apology letter on Wednesday to the man who signed him to a seven-figure deal after spending nearly a decade behind bars.

"I was wrong about my assessment of Chairman Reid," Shyne wrote. "After I stopped being all Carl Thomas emotional and things like that, I thought about the facts. Fact is L.A Reid was there when I was locked, a few feet away from death row and the Black Panthers. L.A. was on the visit floor on Rikers Island looking at me through them blinding bars, showing me hebelieved in that gang boy revolutionary music I make. "

Shyne stood firm with his loyalty to Reid by reflecting on the fact that the Def Jam CEO was responsible for selling millions of records and making stars out of Diddy and Jermaine Dupri. “I’m loyal to a fault! F*** it!! I’m rolling with L.A., he wrote. What’s funny though is that Shyne also praised Reid for molding legends like Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton and Usher, when in his previous rant, he dogged Reid for favoring R&B over hip-hop.

Ø Rihanna Leaves Manager; Signs with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation

Weeks before the release of her highly anticipated new album, Loud, Rihanna parted ways with her manager and announced that she will now be represented by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, along with Melanie Fiona and Wale.

“I am so excited to take this next step in my career”, Rihanna told the Associated Press.

Because the Barbados-born singer was signed to Def Jam in 2005, while Jay-Z briefly served as the label’s president and her mentor, it was only a matter of time before the two joined forces.

In addition to signing to Roc Nation, Rihanna also revealed that she is starting her own company, Rihanna Entertainment to “merge all of her businesses, including music, film, fragrance, fashion and book ventures.

Ø Beyonce’s Mom Shoots Down Pregnancy Rumors

Ever since the two became one, Jay-Z and Beyonce have been dodging rumors that they are expecting their first child together. Last week, it was reported from a source that is close to The Carters that say that the couple is indeed expecting their first child.

On the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles stopped by later that week to set the record straight. "I heard that, but I'm here to clear the rumors up. The truth is it's not Beyonce that's pregnant -- it's me," joked the 56-year-old. "No, it's not true. Not right now. I'm looking forward to it. With all the rumors, by now I should have about five or six grandchildren."

One minute she is and the next she isn’t. With all the success that she’s accomplished in her career, the world is just ready for her focus on building her family enjoying that part of life. I guess the truth will come out once (or if) she starts showing. Stay tuned!

Ø Jazmine Sullivan Finds Strength in Honesty on Mary J. Blige Tour

For someone who has only been in the game for a couple years, Jazmine Sullivan’s music career has brought her many accomplishments. With hit singles, a Grammy nomination and a spot on Mary J. Blige’s Music Saved My Life tour, opening with new singer, Miguel and legendary El DeBarge, Sullivan has come a long way from the days in Philly.

"It's been wonderful, it's been therapeutic," she said during an interview with The Boombox; of touring with Blige. "That's one of the things you love about this tour, she's so real and she's so honest. She's been through everything that you're going through, that you've been through, and she can speak to you. When I was younger, I saw her in concert and she was bawling. I admired her for being that honest and that open with her audience. I think that's why people love her. That's something that I have not done yet -- been that honest -- because you gotta be really not scared to do that, but that's something one day that I would love to just do. Just let it out." Laterthat evening, Sullivan performed the appropriate song for her remark, a cover of SWV's 'Weak.'

The follow-up to her debut album, Fearless, Sullivan’s sophomore album, Love Me Back, focuses on both spectrums of relationships. Female fans have the opportunity to relate to the “break up” songs like, “Holding You Down” without being labeled as “man hater”. "I felt like I was probably a little one-sided with [my debut] 'Fearless,' because of the relationship I had just ended. I came off a little angry!" the Sullivan admits. "This time I want to show a softer side and a different side of relationships because every relationship isn't tumultuous."

Jazmine Sullivan’s sophomore album, Love Me Back; in stores on November 30th.

Ø Check Out Kanye West’s Short Film, “Runaway”

This week, Kanye West released his latest hit, “Runaway” to the masses! Off of his fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the short film is now available on various internet sites; in its entirety.

In the beginning of the film, Nicki Minaj starts off by narrating the story of a phoenix fallen to Earth that West befriends. Hailed as “epic”, the 35 minute short film as been compared to those of the late, great King of Pop, Michael Jackson, of whom West shouts out via a processional.

Ø Wale Criticized For Loud, Profane Campus Concert

No stranger to controversy in regards to his performances, rapper Wale adds his latest show at the homecoming for the University of Mary Robinson to the list of upset onlookers.

Wale signed on to join the ranks at the outdoor homecoming concert for the university this past Saturday after being voted on by the student body. Unfortunately, not everyone was so receptive to the DC native’s style of rap. Reportedly, three residents did not find Wale’s graphic use of profanity and volume of the concert appealing causing the University’s President to send out a formal apology.

"Not only was the music extremely loud, but the language contained in the lyrics was upsetting to those who would not choose to attend a concert of this nature," wrote President Rick Hurley in a letter to Virginia's Free Lance-Star paper. "I am sorry that a high-spiritedweekend on campus ended on such a negative note for some of our closest neighbors who were offended by both the volume and the content of the music."

Wale previously went under fire after backing out of a $20,000 performance during the LGBT-sponsored Black Pride Festival in May; branding him as homophobic. Wale showed his remorse by performing a free show.

Ø Cleveland Radio Station Creates Bully-Free Air Zone

The recent wave of teen bullying and subsequent teen suicide has taken the country by storm; including the city of Cleveland. Since 2006, four students from Mentor High School have taken their own lives due to bullying. Fed up and ready for change, local hip-hop station, Z107.9 hosted the first, in what hopefully will become the national, “Bully-Free Air Zone”—a two hour show that focuses on teen bullying, violence and its effects.

"Whether it be cyber-bullying or physical or verbal, it's wrong and we just got to put an end to it," said station DJ Latin Assassin. "It's an issue that a lot of times gets swept under the rug. A lot of parents and children don't take it serious."

The show was hosted by child psychologist, Dr. Art LaPlace, who pointed out that almost one in every six school-aged children are bullied on a regular basis and feel as though they have no one to turn to.

Most stations would not think twice to cut off their regularly scheduled spins of Drake and Rick Ross, in order to address an issue that is killing our children so Z107.9 should be commended for their conscious effort to promote change. Besides the panel discussion with the hosts, teens and parents, the show also allows kids to call in a report suspected bullying directly on the air!

With the success of this show, let’s hope and pray that other radio stations across the nation will soon follow suit!

~* Fashion 411 *~

Being 6ft even and a proud size 16, I know all too well the struggles of finding clothes that compliment my full-size and properly accentuate my curvaceous figure. I decided to dedicate this issue of fashion to my fellow curvaceous mamas out the there in the world!! Just because we have a little more to love, doesn’t mean that we don’t have a sense of fashion or an awareness of what’s hot! And to help, here are 10 Fall 2010 Fashion Trends for Plus Size women!

1) High Heels

~ With high heeled shoes, they make your legs not only appear longer but leaner! Make sure you wear them with your dress pants, casual jeans and skirts!

2) Jeggings

~ As I stated before in a previous post, jeggings are the newest fall fashion trend sweeping the nation! A cross between jeans and leggings, jeggings can be worn with a pair of mid-calf, loose-fitting boots and your favorite top.

3) Fitted Cardigans and Blazers

~ One of the biggest mistakes we as plus size women make is wearing baggy, oversized sweaters and jackets. Unfortunately, what we don’t realize is that we are actually making ourselves look heavier than we really are! Let’s go for a fitted cardi or blazer that buttons just below the chest and above your belly button.

4) Wide-leg Pants

~While skinny jeans are all the rave in fashion, they really do not compliment the figure of a full-figured woman. Instead, choose a wide-leg, dark shade, like a chocolate, tan or coffee color that fits loosely over your thighs.

5) Scarves

~Ok ladies, you should be familiar with scarves after my piece on scarves two weeks ago but just in case you forget, here’s a refresher! It’s important to go with a color that compliments your hair color, makeup and complexion.

6) Darted Tops and Blouses

~Choose shirts with darted pleats just below the breast and near your natural waistline. By doing this, you accentuate you curves instead of making your body look more boxy and unflattering.

7) Animal Print Accessories

~It’s important to realize that these vibrant prints will draw attention to where you wear them so be cautious of overdoing them. If you have great arms, a leopard print purse would be a great accessory! If you someone that has a smaller waist, try pairing it with a great zebra print waist belt!

8) Slouch Boots

~If you are a curvy girl with thick calves, then these are the boots for you! They disguise any calf insecurities you may have and will look hot with a two of three inch heel!

9) A-line Skirts

~I love wearing skirts and one that does the full-figured woman justice is the A-line! The hemline falls at the smallest part of your leg and is the same width at the hip, giving you an overall slimmer appearance.

10) Dark-colored Jeans

~The best friend of the curvy diva is dark denim! Also giving you a slimmer, smoother appearance, dark-colored denim has the potential to be dressed up or jazzed down, depending on the occasion and your mood!

I hope these tips have helped you guys and I hope that maybe now my fellow curvaceous divas can walk through a store, more aware of their body and what it takes to make it look good! Remember, God gave us this beautiful canvas and when creating a masterpiece, it’s not the size of the canvas but what you do with it that counts!

~* Strategize, Accessorize, Mesmerize!*~

Accessories: the golden touch of fashion!

Spotlighting: Tights!!!

When we were younger, we dreaded wearing tights and resented our mothers for forcing the issue but now, tights are making a comeback! Long or short, our legs are one of the most important extremities on the human body so why not accessorize and dress them up for the fall and winter months!

With the popularity of tights back on the rise, designers are now creating more unique styles of tights, in new and exciting designs, colors and textures. Whether they are full-length or high-high, tights have the ability to jazz up a classic outfit or keep you warm and cozy on a cold, winter day. With a thin pair of lace tights, you could pair it with a pea coat dress and pumps or with a thick pair of tights, match it with a cardigan, short ruffle skirt and a pair of booties!

However you choose to wear them, have fun with you tights and be creative!

~*Street Swag!*~

If you consider yourself a fashion-forward individual who has the ability to turn heads with your impeccable style, then let’s show the world what you’re made of! If you stay funky fresh, dressed to impress, ready to party, you could be my Golden Trendsetter of the Week!! I want to spotlight and showcase the everyday trendsetter; the one who breaks through the rules of fashion to create their own boundaries. If that’s you, email me a picture, highlighting your unique style, along with a brief statement explaining what makes your style so unique to, SoGoldenBlog@gmail.com and I’ll be happy to share your style with the world!

***Flashing Lights: Our Time Is Now!***

Illuminating the talents of new artists; independent rhythm with a mainstream flair!

The light’s on: Daniel ‘Diggy’ Simmons!

A long way from the shy little boy, who often felt misunderstood on MTV’s Run’s House, as branch off the hip-hop royalty family tree, Daniel ‘Diggy’ Simmons, son of hip-hop pioneer Joseph ‘Rev Run’ Simmons of Run-DMC and nephew of mega-mogul and co-founder of Def Jam Records, Russell Simmons, has practically grown up in front of our eyes and has geared up to take the music game by storm!

Now 15, Diggy is firmly planting his feet into the hip-hop realm and showing no signs of stopping. In 2009, Diggy laced his vocals on The First Flight mixtape, hosted by DJ Spinking but it wasn’t until early 2010 that the world began to take notice. Recording over Nas’s classic, “Made You Look”, with the line, “You know I’m born in Queens so Nas gave me the clearance”, Diggy goes hard in this two minute freestyle, with speed, precision and impeccable swag, letting it be known to the masses that he is more than just the son of greatness but a lyrist on his own accord.

Soon after his freestyle became an internet success, streaming almost 62,000 views on Youtube alone, Diggy signed a contract with Atlantic Records and released the Airborne mixtape to celebrate. The mixtape includes the track, “Great Expectations” that can be heard as the featured track in the current AT&T cell phone commercial, starring Diggy. In October of this year, Diggy was offered an opportunity to perform on a platform that I think solidified his name in the game and dubbed him as the future of hip-hop.

Along with Ice Cube and his sons, OMG & Doughboy and alongside his big brother JoJo and dad, Diggy, with the crowd cheering him on, effortlessly ripped through his 16 bars during the 2010 BET Hip-Hop Awards cipher, once again letting the world know that he is a young force to be reckoned with and showing no signs of slowing down.

Ø Jay-Z Gets Turned Down for a Collaboration with Sade

It seems that “King Hov” may not be as powerful as some thought. Though Sade is one on the most adored singers of our time, she has never allowed any artist to sample her tracks nor has she collaborated with any other artist. In a recent interview with Los Angeles Times, Sade admitted that though she has recently received collaboration requests from Drake and Jay-Z, she never felt right working with any other artist except her own band mates.

"I'm too scared," the singer expressed when asked about denying Jay-Z’s request to collaborate. As for collaborations, I'm collaborating with the band and do what we do. I see myself as a member of this band who does these songs that we write."

Ø Nicki Minaj Reportedly Fires Diddy as her Manager

It seems that the magic that once was is no more. It’s reported that Nicki Minaj has split from her manager, hip-hop mogul and founder of Bad Boys Records, Diddy due to feeling as though she was being managed by “her mother”.

“By now, everyone should now that I am really strict when it comes to my representation," Minaj said in a statement obtained by HipHopDX. "I had sympathy for Diddy, however, I feel as if I haven't gotten the guidance the manager is supposed to give his client. Personally, I feel like I'm being managed by mother. Even if you play the smallest role on my team, I wish to see progress. I'd like to thank him for everything he has done for me; for taking me under his wing. I wish him the best with repping Rick Ross but now that my album is about to drop, its time to get serious and stop playing games."

It was said that Benny Medina, former record label exec and former manager of Mariah Carey, Usher, Brandy and Jennifer Lopez, has signed on to manage Minaj. Making this her third manager in seven months; firing Waka Flocka’s mother in April.

Ø Gucci Mane in Rehab for Cocaine Usage

After being released from prison only six months ago, rapper Gucci Mane has checked himself into rehab to deal with his cocaine addiction.

According to Ozone Magazine, members of Gucci entourage were involved in an hour-long stand-off outside the Riverwoods Southern Regional Psychiatric Center in Riverdale, GA. Apparently, the entourage which included his manager and lawyer begged him to enter the facility for treatment.

After convincing the rapper that his cocaine addiction could be the thing that sends him right back to jail, the 30-year old Gucci turned himself in for 28-day treatment which offers support groups for chemical dependency every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Gucci has been no stranger to substance abuse. In 2008, the rapper was arrested for DUI, violating his probation from a 2005 assault charge and sending him back to jail. While in jail, rumors spread that the reason he was sent to jail was because he tested positive for cocaine. "I think it was for marijuana," Gucci said of the failed drug test. "But it definitely wasn't from cocaine. I have never used cocaine. I stopped smoking and stopped drinking. For the last six months, I haven't used any drugs, and I will continue to claim sobriety."

Substance abuse is a serious disease and we are all sending prayers Gucci’s way for a speedy and successful recovery!

Ø Beyonce’ Reported in First Trimester of Pregnancy

For months now, rumors have been circulating that Beyonce’ was pregnant which was never confirmed by Mrs. Carter or her hubby, Jay-z but now the rumors once again has resurfaced. According to a source close to the 29 year-old “Dangerously in Love” singer, the pregnancy, which is in its first trimester came as a complete surprised.

“B was shocked” the source told US Weekly. “She loves kids, but she wasn’t ready to be a mother just yet. She really wanted to get her album off the ground and tour the world again.” Though the timing was not the best, the source says that the singer is “so happy.”

This would be the couple’s first baby. Married in 2008, the two have constantly dodged rumors that a baby was on the way. No word or confirmation from Beyonce’ camp as of yet.

Well, if it is true, congratulations!!!

*~* FASHION 411 *~*

**ファッション…La Mode…Moda**

Fashion; Internationally!

When it comes the international fashion for men, the main objective is to create slim, clean silhouettes; whether you’re wearing a double-breasted suit (which are making a come back) or sweats and J’s. I know that most men in America cannot wrap their minds around wearing anything that has a little bit of a fit, seeing as though we our a country that is all about the baggy, loose fitting jeans and shirts but over the pond, this style of dress is rarely seen on the bodies of European men. Even something as simple as a button-down shirt, jeans and a blazer has a clean, sleek look about it. Here are just a few ideas that my help you achieve your own unique, European look!

§ Shirts: When purchasing a button-down shirt, go for the one that has darts in the back, which creates a closer proximity to the body and allows for a more tailored look. With this tailored look, you can pull off an effortlessly sophisticated look that can be paired with your favorite pair of denim or a clean pair of slacks.

§ Pants: While most American men prefer to have their pants a little loose at the ankle, the style of the European men is to have the pants end directly at the ankle. This way, your shoes can be visible without exposing your socks. Just like the shirt, your pant should be sleek and clean, giving you a leaner look!

§ Blazers: Nothing completes an outfit for a man like a blazer! Just like with any article of clothing, you want to go for a blazer that has a great cut! It does not matter the style, as long as you have a clean, slim cut! Once that is accomplishment, you’ll be ready to hit the scene in an international state of mind!

**American Beauty**

Latest trends sweeping the Nation

~~ Black is Beautiful! ~~

To some, Black is a basic color, one with minimal excitement and flair but for men with a sense of style, they know that black is a powerful color in fashion that can be used as an accent or stand alone.

No color does a man justice than black when it comes to suits! Ask a woman what she thinks about a man in a sexy, sleek black suit and for a minute she may momentarily check out. Pair your black suit with and bright colored shirt and tie that brings all the color together and you’ll be guaranteed to turn heads, double time! Or for a more relaxed look, you could wear a clean black fitted V-neck T from Banana Republic ($26.50) or a Hanes® fitted black V-neck T, a slick pair of jeans and your favorite kicks and be just as hot!

As far as accessories, black is great when pairing it with tan or brown blazers, ties, shoes & silver & gold jewelry. With black, there are no limits with how far you can take it! It’s a great color and has the power to work wonders with any man that wears it! I’m a woman so take my word for it. We see you in that black and yeah, we like!

**Strategize, Accessorize, Mesmerize!**

Spotlighting: Colognes!

Nothing is more attracting than a man that has a great scent; when you can look at a man and say, ‘He looks like he smells good! Many men do not realize that having cologne that best compliment s their own unique body fragrance is just as important as any physical accessory, i.e., jewelry, ties, etc. And no one knows how a man should smell better than a woman! It is us that gets that warm, fuzzy feeling in the pit of our stomachs when you walk pass us, smelling so delectable!

I decided to help my fellas out by asking a few women what their favorite scent on a man was. At the end of the day, it is us that aids in creating your style because it is us that you essentially are trying to impress. Some of you may already have these scents in your arsenal or after reading this; you may want to add a few on your shopping list because if you do, I guarantee you will not regret it!

  • Dolce & Gabbana
  • Joop!
  • I Am King

***Flashing Lights: Our Time Is Now!***

Illuminating the talents of new artists; independent rhythm with a mainstream flair!

The light’s on: Andre “Dre” Knight!

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Andre “Dre” Knight learned early on that he had a love of music that could not be ignored.

Enlisting in the United States Marine Corp after high school, Dre attended the Armed Forces School of Music, working as a Marine Musician. It was during this time that he focused on honing his piano and technical skills. This was only the beginning for the street savvy music man from the BK.

After his time in the Marines, Dre entered the music industry as co-founder of The Narcotics production team, with his boys, as well as, the KDI Music Group. It was then that he produced tracks for Shi Stimuli; aiding Stimuli in getting signed to Virgin Records. From here, the musical gates opened and Dre had no problem busting right through! Working with reggae artist, Sizzla and producing such hits as, Teairra Mari’s “Make Her Feel Good” remix featuring Jay-Z and Kanye West and LL Cool J’s “What You Want”, featuring Freeway, just to name a few, Dre is well on his way to solidifying his place in the world of music!

Now residing in Malibu, CA, Andre Knight is a great example of the fruits of hard work and dedication & I was blessed to be able to talk to the man himself, in order to get the 411 on life, music and the future.

So Golden: First, I want to thank you for taking the time out to talk to me today; I really appreciate it!

Andre Knight: Anytime!

SG: Now, before we get into what's going on with you now, let's take a quick walk down memory lane. Now, born and raised in NYC, growing up, did the rise of Hip-Hop influence the way you felt about music?

AK: Absolutely.... The hip hop culture really boomed in the mid-late 80's and was a huge influence on how I felt about music and about life in general. Groups like Public Enemy and artists like KRS-1 were providing the social commentary for us growing up, and then we had artists like Big Daddy Kane and the Juice Crew teaching us the essence of cool

SG: So with all those great musical influences, when did you realize that you had developed a personal love for the art form?

AK: My love and passion for music was formed before I ever listened to a hip hop record. I remember as a young kid, there were only three black artists whose videos would play on MTV heavy: Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie & Prince. I remember watching Prince play multiple instruments on stage one time...and I was hooked!! I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen and from there, I would teach myself to play piano...By watching a scene where Prince played the piano in "Purple Rain".

SG: Prince was definitely a musical genius; not only a great entertainer but an artist who took the time to learn and perfect his craft. Outside of the piano, what other instruments are u gifted in playing?

AK: I learned to play the trumpet in junior high school, but haven’t touched it in over 20 yrs. I play any keyboard instrument though; the vibraphone, marimba but my passion is with the keys.

SG: Multi-talented, I see! Now, The Narcotics. How did you guys come together and when did you realize that it was time to take this dream of musical success to the next level?

AK: The Narcotics were comprised of my childhood friends. They're like my brothers. Keytolife, Double 0 Seven and I were all producers in our own right, but decided to be a full time production team in 2000. We worked hard and developed great chemistry and a sound that would aid in landing my other childhood best friend Sha Stimuli a record deal at Virgin Records and launch our careers as producers. The dream was always there and once we compared what we were doing in the studio with what was in the marketplace, we were confident that we could compete and have some success.

SG: So, it's evident that you are not a stranger to hard work and perseverance!

AK: Not at all. I’ve always been ambitious and driven and my will to be successful is what has got me to this point in my career. Although I parted from the Narcotics in 2007, I’ve maintained that will and ambition and here I am!!

Ø The King Prevents a Suicide Attempt!

With all that Clifford Harris, aka T.I., has going on in his personal life, i.e. his recent drug charge and probation violation, he still found time to help another person look at the value of life.

According to reports, a young man attempted to commit suicide by jumping from the 22-story Colony Square building in Midtown Atlanta on Wednesday (October 13th). After hearing about the dramatic event unfolding on Atlanta’s radio station, V-103, T.I. called into the station to see if there was anything he could do to help.

On his way to a video shoot, T.I. met with the authorities at the scene and decided to record a sincere message for the jumper, in the hopes that it would change his mind. "Nothing is that bad," Tip said, according to TMZ. "Nothing in life is worth taking your life. I'm here to help you. Please come down to talk to me." Later in the day he explained why he felt the need to intervene. "Something in me just said, 'man you gotta try and help. You gotta do whatever you can.’ "

Atlanta authorities were grateful for T.I. act of generosity. “He didn't have to stop. He could've kept on going about his business," said Atlanta Police Department Officer James Polite. "We're happy it ended the way it did, and we thank him."

Ironically, while getting praised for his kind heart, he faces the law later this week for his September drug bust and probation violation.

Ø Shyne Fires Shots at Def Jam—Claims they don’t Care About Hip-Hop

The music world was in a lost for words when they discovered that Island Def Jam CEO L.A. Reid recently signed former Bad Boy rapper, Shyne, after recently being released from prison after serving 9-years. While most would consider this a once in a lifetime opportunity, Shyne decided to put the label on blast about their lack of interest in his new project and those of other artists.

Shyne recently spoke with SOHH.com about Def Jam’s lack of interests in their hip-hop artists. "The Def Jam thing is a question mark right now," he said. "I've been fixing to get up out of there for a while now because L.A. Reid don't care about hip-hop. The people up there, they don't know what they're doing. When you don't have a strong leader, where you gonna go? ... They don't care about hip-hop music."

Shyne also stated the label is choosing to only promote hip-hop artists who arecollaborating with R&B artists, naming The Roots, Nas, and Ghostface Killah.

Not knowing the future of Def Jam, after rumors have been circulating about L.A. Reid being fired soon, Shyne has expressed an interest in signing with Cash Money. "I'm definitely trying to get with Cash Money," he stated. "I might just have Cash Money do everything. Who knows? That's the beauty about being in the business for yourself. You can decide where you want to go and what you want to do."

Ø Former B2K member, Raz B, Continues with Child Molestation Accusations.

After a brief moment of silence, former B2K member, Raz B, is again calling out former manager, Chris Stokes and former label mate, Marques Houston on sexual abuse charges. Comparing Stokes and Houston to Atlanta mega church pastor Bishop Eddie Long, who was recently accused of befriending four young boys in exchange for sexual favors, Raz B found himself reliving some of his own painful memories after watching one Bishop Long’s sermons.

"For all you pedophiles out there, you Eddie Longs, you Marques Houstons, you Chris Stokes, you're gonna burn in hell with gasoline draws on if you don't repent," he said. Accused of being bi-polar by former band mate, Omarion, Raz B exploded after a confrontation with Marques Houston in 2007. "There you have it, Marques Houston hanging up on some b--- a-- s---. I'm trying to be nice," Raz said hyperventilating, "Be the Godly man that I am, forgivesomeone who had sex with me as I was under the age of 18-years-old."

Although Houston and Stokes have never been charged for these accusations, this new round of allegations will only worsen the relationship between the once so close, TUG family.

*Mix n’ Match Separates (Transitioning Summer favs into fall looks)

As the summer sadly comes to an end, to some, it also means the end for some of our favorite summer fashions. Every year, I have a hard time switching out my summer apparel to my fall fashions because I always feel that some of my summertime looks can play a major role in my looks for the fall! If you are someone that also suffers from this same fate, not to worry!! Help is on the way!! This fall is all about Mixing and Matching Separates; giving our summer frocks a new lease on life!

In just about every store this summer, you’ve probably noticed the return of the plaid tunic. Paired with a pair of leggings or the new phenomena, “Jeggings”, which is a combination and jeans and leggings, and a stiletto, and you’re ready to party. With cooler temperatures approaching, it’s now time to turn that same fierce look into a Fall-appropriate ensemble.

Take that fierce tunic or sheer, oversized shirt and throw one of your favorite tanks underneath it! Layers are our friends in the fall (as long as u don’t overdo it). Next, to protect your legs from the whipping fall wind, pair the tunic w/ some thick tights or the new phenomena, “Jeggings”, which is a combination and jeans and leggings. Add a nice pair of boots and waist belt and you’ll be warm and ready for lunch with Girls or a movie night with Honey. *~*

ファッション…La Mode…Moda…

*~* Fashion; Internationally *~*

When it comes to fall fashion this year, there’s only one word that lies in the hearts of our neighbors across the pond: NEUTRALS!!!

With summer coming to a close, Europeans are bidding a seasonal farewell to the bright hues of the summer and embracing those of a softer, warmer tone. When thinking of neutral colors, cream, nude, camel, brown, chocolate, beige and gray, are a few that come to mind. Open ended, these colors give you an opportunity to combine styles, fabrics and other complementary colors, in order to create a fierce wardrobe for the cool fall season.

For example, by combining a nice ruffle, olive green blazer, beige pair of pants and accessorizing with a chocolate brown Hobo purse and Booties, you are setting yourself up for a great fall look that complements the falling leaves of the season. Whatever your inspiration, play around with your neutrals and whether you decide to blend them with pale greens, shades of purple and blue or wear alone, trust you instinct and know what looks good on you! While jewelry, purses and shoes are great accessories, the best accessory to accentuate your neutral ensemble is CONFIDENCE! Once this is set, you’ll be ready to hit the scene, turn heads and take pleasure in all the joys of autumn!

~Strategized…Accessorize…Mesmerize!!!~

Spotlighting: SCARVES!!

Once an article of clothing only worn by matronly women or on a cold, winter days, scarves have become an essential element to everyday style! With various types, textures, patterns, and, colors scarves have the ability to transform any outfit for any occasion.

When it comes to the types of types of scarves to use, there are several available, depending on what look u are going for. For a sleek, professional look, the silk scarf is great! Loop in onto or through your belt loops or pair it with a nice pencil skirt u are on your way. For a more casual, everyday look, scarves made of cotton, linen or rayon, are great additives to a glam up a mundane outfit. By draping it across your neck or waist, you’ve created an effortless look w/out wasting the whole day doing so.

If your goal is to transform a simple look into something with a little more pizzazz, nothing says fashionista better than COLOR! By adding colorful scarves to your ensemble, you bring life into your look and give others reason to double back and take notice. If your scarf is one that has patterns or multiple colors, do not, I repeat, DO NOT feel the need to have to be match with every color in the scarf. Instead, pluck out one or two colors and coordinate from there. For example, if you have a scarf that is purple, gray and white, a white or gray top or sweater with a pair dark denim jeans and boots would be a great combo! Also, by accessorizing with purple, pink, teal or silver jewelry, you highlight the colors within the scarf without looking like a bag of skittles.

There are many different ways in which you can wear scarves so do not limit yourself! Be creative and listen to the stylist within you!
